Today, I’ll review what I’ve seen of the currently airing anime, “Guin Saga” (poster inset)
Guin Saga is a heavy fantasy themed anime, with elements of action, comedy, and drama. Originally a best-selling novel series in Japan, Guin Saga has gathered more then 120 volumes since 1979 and is “longest continuing single-writer’s work in the world with total circulation exceeding 28 million worldwide.”
At the moment, Guin Saga currently only has 8 anime episodes with and 7 and 8 both being unsubbed (curse of a slow subbing group, I’d imagine). I also note that a favorite composer of mine, Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series) did the opening theme for the show. Nice seeing them going back to instrumental roots for songs these days.
The story centers around a mysterious warrior named Guin, an amnesiac with a leopard mask magically affixed to his head. Remembering nothing but his fighting instincts and the word “Aura”, he confronts an unfriendly world to try and recover his lost memories.
On the journey with him are two twins, the Parros Twins, he saved earlier on. While protecting the twins, will they confront a world laden with danger, intrigue, and magic? Will Guin find out what he desires, or will he be lost trying? Tune in to see the results.
On my currently airing scale, I’d give this a 3.5/5. Not a bad show, but not the best fantasy I’ve seen either. I hope with more episodes my opinion will shift further so I can rate it higher, but at the moment I’d suggest watching it if you’re waiting for other anime to be subbed.
