Apparently, even the great anime market of the world is not immune to the effects of the recession, something that is really more a function of a large amount of internet competition than it is an actual recessionary fallback. This is why many anime studios were experiencing problems before the recession ever hit and why many anime studios are now in deep trouble that they have both the recession and the internet to contend with. One such anime studio is Gonzo which of course is famous for the Rosario to Vampire and Kurogane no Linebarrels endeavors.
In the most recent news to come out of their specific camp, Gonzo has announced that over the course of the next five years that are planning to reduce their current staff total of 130 people down to 30 people. This was supposed to start with an overall reduction of 50 people immediately, but Gonzo was only able to browbeat 36 of their staff members into accepting the severance package that the company was offering. For that reason, Gonzo is already behind schedule even in their downsizing and that could most definitely spell trouble for everyone involved.
